A popular topic of discussion these days is “yoga in the work place”. The growth and interest in yoga at work has come from the desires of employees as well as employers to find convenient solutions to increase wellness at the work place. The repetitive stress, mental burnout, neck pain, back pain, physical discontent, and mental discontent lead to stress for employees. This amounts to less productivity for employers.
The solutions for less stress at work are not a cure all, but when practiced regularly can be found to reduce the number of daily complaints, while supporting many factors that lead to better health, wellness, and productivity.
In an athlete’s life, the connection with muscles, breath, circulation and winning gets made early on. Many in the work place forget the need for maintenance to achieve wellness. The body is an instrument, and must be tuned and nourished with the appropriate food and exercise for the goal at hand.
Just like the athlete, office workers face many physical demands which add pain and stress to their bodies. This hinders their wellness. Optimal work place environments require employees to be pain-free while sitting or working production for long hours, which is why yoga at work can be so helpful. Yoga also aids in good circulation which is required to keep the brain firing at levels that are necessary in order to stay focused.
Yoga at work provides both the physical and mental components that can help reduce the common aches and pains created through tight muscles and repetitive use patterns, while strengthening the body and having it be in correct alignment.
The breath connects the mind to the body, and creates better circulation throughout the brain and body. This in turn supports overall health, good feeling, and the ability to focus. Stress reduction is a natural byproduct of the deep breathing, and is in contrast to the shallow breath that most people have during times of anxiety and depression.
Making a life style commitment to achieve wellness can be a difficult thing to embark on, but once corporations see the benefit both they and their employees are receiving from work place yoga, successfully attended programs may be implemented. Remember, that the more stress free you feel at work, the more your wellness increases, and the more productive your day will be.
