These days I hear most from my patients, friends, and family about stresses linked to tax season. In today's economy, we are already under one of the heaviest financial burdens of our time, and according to a study from the Tax Foundsation, "U.S. tax payers U.S. taxpayers spend over 6 billion hours and over $256 billion working to comply with the current tax code. That's a lot of dollars and hours", I cant even imagine the overall measured stress on America. You can read the original article here.
The bottom line of this tax season is that people are stressed due to fear, deadline, gathering financial information, and etc. Stress (whether it's from tax season or holiday season) causes your immune system to decline and your body to perform on a fight or flight basis. This can cause your adrenals to crash and lead to hormonal imbalances. Stress combined with lack of sleep, which most of us would be experiencing this season crashes the immune system even more and this is the reason why a lot of my patients are suffering from a cold this week!
The solution may seem simple and sommon sense but most of us need a reminder.
Get your taxes done early. Get enough sleep. Drink lots of water. Eat plenty of fruits and veggies and meditate! Can't get away from the tax season so embrace it by preparing for it! Good luck!
