Sequencing your wellness steps for max results

Sequencing refers to the logical progression of actions that lead to a desired result. If you stop and think about it, just about everything we do is "sequenced." Children begin with the A-B-C's and 1-2-3's not Beowulf and Algebra. Cooking with or without a recipe is another example of sequencing. If you tried to saute carrots before you washed, peeled and sliced them, your dinner might not be too popular! Brushing your teeth has a sequence: toothpaste first, brushing second, rinse last. Pretty simple!

But what happens when the sequencing steps aren't so obvious? How about dating? Is there a correct sequence to the dating process? Hmmm... I bet some good stories could be told about poor sequencing in that category! Dating is not as straight forward as sauteing carrots or brushing your teeth. There are more variables, more options to choose from, but even so, there are some clear sequencing rules that when followed will result in a much better experience! Some learn the steps quickly, others do not!

Creating physical health and vitality or "wellness," is also a goal that requires correct sequencing. Similar to dating, there is great temptation to begin in the middle, to rush results, or to omit steps altogether, resulting in less than spectacular results. In spite of the over-abundance of wellness related info, few know the correct sequence for maximum results in minimum time - until now.

Ten years ago when I was in my early 30's, I did not have a clue about how to properly sequence my choices to create super-health. I exercised, exercised and exercised! I also paid attention to my diet but only relative to my weight. And stress - no worries there - just add a few more miles to the run. By the time I hit my late 30's my body was showing signs of rebellion! In the sequence of things, I was expecting the cart to pull the horse!

As I was to discover, exercise is an essential layer in a strong wellness foundation but it is not the most fundamental one. A big surprise to me was the discovery that nutrition is even more fundamental than exercise when it comes to both looking and feeling great and (more importantly) long term disease prevention. Who knew? One reason for the almost universal mistake of putting exercise ahead of nutrition is that when you are younger, your body will "forgive" you for quite a lot of nutritional sins. Soon however - somewhere in the 30's or early 40's - your body will no longer camouflage your errors.

The most fundamental layer of the foundation is also the least physical and the most difficult to define. Some call this layer the "energetic" or "soul" layer, some call it "chi" or "ki", some "life force," some "vital energy" and still others the "body/mind connection." I prefer to call it the psych/spiritual dynamic because it is the most constantly changing of the three and because our thoughts and emotions are both our monitors and our tools of change when working with this aspect of our selves.

Trilogy Wellness will bring to you twice a month in this newsletter the information you need to properly sequence your daily wellness activities. Each issue will feature a brief article relative to each of the three layers of wellness: psych/spiritual dynamic, nutrition and exercise. Soon, teleseminars will be announced each covering a topic within the three major headings. You will listen to the best and brightest minds in their respective fields.
