It's time to Detox...

It's time for me to detox, I've been doing a bit of traveling lately and feeling kind of sluggish, so figure it's probably time for a good detox. I am training for a half marathon, so I need to find a detox plan that allows me to run 4 days a week and also allows me to eat enough normal food so I have the energy and will to run those 4 days a week.

The last detox I tried was horrible, it's from my local health food store and the shakes they want you to drink taste horrible and I was starving towards the end of the day.

I generally eat pretty healthy and mostly organics, I do my grocery shopping at the health food stores, the hardest part for me is during lunch.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

My most recent adventure in life is to run a half marathon, I ran one a few years ago and for some crazy reason I’ve decided to do it again. I ran my first half marathon in 2 hour and 11 minutes, and my goal this time around is to run in 2 hours or less. All I can say if I am really going to need to speed things up this ...

Here's my plan. I kind of just improvise. It doesn't need to be precise. For a two day cleanse I'd go to Lamebo's and buy a jug of organic apple juice, grapefruit juice, and cranberry juice (1 each). I'd also buy two medium sized bags of some pre-cut and packaged raw (not frozen) organic broccoli, carrots, and cauleflower (and any other veggies you like). If it's not organic, that's fine. Also buy a medium bag of organic baby spinach. For fruits I'd buy 2 grapefuits, 2 apples, a box of blue berries, and 2 bananas. If you have other favorite fruits, those would work fine too. I think grapefruits and berries are important though. Morning: Drink large glass of grapefruit juice Eat half container of blue berries Snack (anytime you're hungry): Drink glass of any of the three juices and/or pirece of fruit like a banana Lunch: Eat bowl full of a mixture of the veggies you bought (olive oil and vinegar okay for dressing). Eat a grapefuit Eat a banana or apple (or other fruit) if still hungry Dinner: Eat bowl full of a mixture of the veggies you bought (olive oil and vinegar okay for dressing). Eat a grapefuit Eat a banana or apple (or other fruit) if still hungry Drink the fruit juices throughout the day instead of water. Drink as much or as little as you want. I'm usually chugging fruit juice all day long. With this plan, I don't think you'll notice anything. I just think it's a good detox plan. If you try it be sure to let us know how it goes! :-)

Amac, if you were going to recommend a detox using fruits, veggies and juice, what kind of program would it be?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried professional cleansing program a few years back and honestly did not notice a difference. I only went once and did not buy all the oils they recommend, I figured I could try it naturally. I think I'll try the raw fruits and veggies.

I recently tried a professional cleansing program. I wrote a blog about it a while back. I would recommend it and I'll do it again. Here's what I wrote about it: http://www.wellness.com/<url removed>

I know this might sound crazy, but I think a great way to detox is to just drink fruit juice and only eat raw fruits and vegetables for a couple days. That seems to work for me. If you eat large amounts of raw cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, romaine lettuce, carrots, peppers, cucumbers, etc they will clean out your intestinal system pretty well I think (oil and vinegar is okay if you can't eat them "undressed"). The raw fruits do the same thing too. Also, if you drink lots of fruit juices during those days it will probably help. I think the sugar from the fruits and juices will keep your energy levels up. If you need to, you can eat some other healthy foods like whole grains, nuts, or fish. From my own experience I'm not convinced that cleansing products can do much more than what I just described above. I've tried a few and didn't feel any different than when I do a simple fruit and vegetable only cleanse. Just my own personal experience. Many others swear by different cleansing products and they do perhaps work for some people. Good luck! Amac
