5 Steps to Survive the Flu Season

4. Avoid Exposure

It will be difficult to avoid everyone who may have a cold or flu this season. Especially due to your increasingly packed holiday schedule filled with family and friends gathering together. It is no coincidence that the cold and flu season peaks near the holidays while everyone is indoors, together, in contained environments.

  • If you are starting to feel sick, work remotely or stay home from work if possible. Your office coworkers and managers will thank you. As more people these days are able to work effectively remotely, this is becoming a more common practice in some industries.
  • If you suspect someone at work might be contagious, make sure to keep to your clean hand washing regimen much more closely.
  • Due to how long it takes to show symptoms, if you are caring for a sick relative or child, it may be wise to be proactive and assume you have caught whatever it is that they have (even if you feel OK).
