5 Steps to Survive the Flu Season

5. Good Ol' Sleep and Exercise

We all know we need to get more sleep and exercise more frequently. Doing both will give us a helpful boost in immunity.

  • Research shows that lack of sleep can make you more likely to get sick.
  • Try to get between 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night (good luck parents!)
  • Working out at a moderate intensity has been shown to increase immunity.
  • People who lead mostly sedentary lives (sitting at your desk all day, and hitting the couch at home) therefore tend to have weaker immune systems. Couple that with spending most of your time in a contained environment in close contact with other people, and you're asking for trouble.

Good luck!

Working out of my home office, I spend a lot of time at the desk, but I do find it important to engage in activities such as running, Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, P90X, and other high ROI exercise because, well, I have kids and need to be able to fit exercise into small slices of time or late at night.
