Dr. O'Donnell substituted for my normal primary care physician on September 24 and 25, 2011 during my stay at Virginia Hospital Center for surgery September 22-26, 2011. Not long after I returned home to recover from surgery, I got my notice from Aetna of monies I might owe the different doctors. By the middle of November, all doctors' offices except Dr. O'Donnell's office had provided bills to me.

On November 28, 2011, I wrote Dr. O'Donnell's office to inquire regarding my bill, indicating I had not received any bill and requesting his office to contact me. I included my home address, home phone number, and cell phone number. I never received any response. On December 21, 2011, I received the expected bill - finally - but it indicated I was 31-60 days overdue. This is UNACCEPTABLE. May I ask how I can be overdue when I never received anything from Dr. O'Donnell's office before December 21, and when I never received any response to my November 28 letter asking that they contact me since I still had not received any bill from them. Would it have strained anyone in their billing department or even the office manager to have taken 30 seconds of their time to have phoned me, especially since my letter provided both my home and cell phone numbers - and I took the initiative to inquire regarding any monies owed?

I have mailed my payment the morning of December 22 and the payment should be received by December 23. However, I am extremely dissatisfied with this office's billing practices, such as not responding to a patient's letter asking to be contacted regarding no bill being sent! This is unacceptable to me as a patient and consumer. I recommend that any person dealing with this office be aware that they will not receive any response to any correspondence regarding why a bill has not been sent and asking for someone to contact them.
