Scientists at the University of Alberta in Western Canada think that they might have discovered a drug to treat and cure many forms of cancer including lung, breast and brain tumors. The drug itself is called dichloroacetate, or DCA- a relatively small and non-toxic molecule. In extensive testing, the researchers found that DCA significantly reduced-and in some cases completely eliminated-various tumors in laboratory rats by activating the mitochondria in the cells of the affected area to undergo apoptosis-which is the cell's self-destruct button, a natural progression in the life of the cell.
So why is that we haven't heard anything about this important research or it's important findings? One article suggests that the drug DCA cannot be patented, therefore it stands to make no money for the pharmaceutical companies, who rely on obtaining expensive patents to produce drugs for consumers. Whether or not this is the case, the research supporting the findings for DCA's cancer-curing powers are fascinating.
