Live or Exist?

I often tell my patients here in the office that as we age we have a very important decision to make. I will ask them what do you want to do when you are 70, 80, 90? Do you want to Live or do you want to Exist?

There are a lot of people in the rest home next to us who are doing more of the latter and not enough of the former. What does that mean?

In my opinion tha means that there are way too many people whose bodies are in existence next door, but unfortunately they stopped living years ago. They have no idea who they are or who their family is. They can't get out of bed or if they do it is just for a few minutes a day. Everyday they get older, but they don't live any longer.

For most of us it is very exciting to hear how people are "living longer." Yet again I ask you, do you want to live to be 70, 80, 90 or do you want to exist? If you want to live and I hope you do, then you better take care of your body now. Don't wait for the symptoms then try to fix it.

Do you wait until you get a cavity and then brush your teeth? Or do you brush your teeth to avoid getting a cavity in the first place?

Until next time enjoy life and LIVE!!! Dr. John
