Simple Steps to Become Healthier

After going back home over the holidays, I realized how poorly my parents eat. I started them off with a few small changes so they will be healthier. I plan on giving them more but need some help coming up with new ones. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Here is what I have so far:

1. Wheat bread instead of white
2. Olive oil instead of vegetable
3. Eat at least one vegetable with meals
4. Eat breakfast

Anyone that enjoys caffeinated beverages, coffee, alcohol, smokes, suffers from defective digestion, or has an immune system compromised due to environmental factors owes it to theirself to adopt a proactive health management strategy with Legacy Immune Health Superfood. Legacy Immune Health Superfood goes beyond nutrition with hyperimmune, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to satisfy hunger (less need for snacking), increase energy (less caffeine craved), and boost immune health (proactive wellness). Hunger is one of the ways the body lets you know that somethin's missin' and its not the sweets, treats, or binge foods you may crave, but rather the vitamins and minerals your body needs to run at peak performance; produce healthy skin, hair, and nails; and boost metabolism. However, without water, vitamins and minerals are not carried throughout the body as well- so, make sure to drink plenty of water. Two other suggestions are for them to take an enzyme product and keep track of how they feel at various times. Enzymes are removed from foods to give them a longer shelf life, so yet another element that has become deficient in the average modern diet. Enzymes are used by the digestive tract to break down foods so we can absorb the nutrition, and the older we get our ability to produce them seems to decrease. All elderly people I have ever known seem to have problems with their digestion. I'm not clear on the connection, but if you supplement with enzymes they help people who have difficulty with raw foods, yet raw foods still provide enzymes. Of course other foods that cause distress, to the upper GI tract especially, benefit as well from enzyme supplementation. My company has a full-spectrum enzyme product that has helped all that I have had try it, especially my son who was causing strife with his brother with his constant flatulence. I honestly do not know what to watch out for from cheaper formulations, maybe someone else has some input on enzyme products. And having a list to “rate” how they feel about their health in various areas is a really good mechanism to help them realize eating better is making a difference. On the one-page list I give people it has things like: Sense of well-being – Physically Sense of well-being – Mentally Energy Level/Consistency Digestion Muscle strength Etc…. you get the idea. And they rate all these areas at various intervals. It is great for those who will fill it out, for the rest it obviously does nothing. I will share it with anyone who would like a copy if you want to send me a message with an email address I can send a Word document. Good luck helping your parents! They can be resistant to the help, but when you see them looking and feeling better as a result it is so worth it for them, AND you. Kathryn

Love this idea. It helps me help my parents too. I think hcurran is absolutely right. In addition I might recommend: 1. reduce sugar intake (from sugary sodas, etc) 2. less alcohol (assuming they drink) 3. drink herbal teas (like green or ginger or peppermint) 4. get rid of cooking sprays (if they haven't already) 5. go for fresh fruits and veggies rather than microwave lunches and dinners

Nice! I would recommend adding the following, just because they've been so beneficial to me: 1. Drinking more water 2. Cutting out all artificial sweeteners 3. Taking a good multivitamin daily
