Bite Off More Than You Can Chew, Here's Why

"Failure is not an option," is a common empowerment theme these days. We push ourselves in fitness or to excel at work. Yet in our day-to-day life, we also tend to hedge our bets… only moving forward when we have a rationally solid understanding of the journey AND the outcome.  In the rush of life, it becomes easy to underestimate our own abilities. We tend not to push ourselves toward bigger opportunities that can lead us to discover our own potential.

Most of us have taken a big risk at some point in our lives --- changing careers, marriage, buying a home, moving across country or to a different country entirely. Those decisions hold an element of fear because they include the possibility of failure. However, the lessons learned in those big moments become important aspects of who we are. Whether or not we are successful, the achievement is transformative. Consider how much greater you might become if you weave those life-stretching moments into your daily world. Consider taking on intimidating tasks to learn, in small doses. Feel the anxiety and savor the struggle --- these are sensations which can bring depth to your existence. What are you truly capable of?

Yes - you just might fail. There’s nothing wrong with that. That doesn’t mean you “got it wrong.” You can turn it around and realize you never truly fail when you’ve tried. There is no failure when you’ve gained wisdom and experience. In fact, you’ll gain more than you could ever possibly lose. When you bite off more than you can chew, odds are good that you will surprise yourself and be hungry to try it again. The taste of  stepping outside your comfort zone can be beautiful. One thing is certain - along the way you will grow and discover something deeper inside yourself than if you had never tried at all.
