Massage For Back Pain

Back Pain is a very common and affects people of all ages. Back pain ranges from  mild annoyance to debilitating pain that can leave people bedridden. There are  many types of back pain and many causes of back pain which is why it is  important to get checked out by a doctor when symptoms persist or cause problems  walking. Being in pain can make you lose sleep which further can add to the  problem itself. There are many areas of the back that can be involved. There is  upper, middle and low back pain which can also affect other areas of the  body.

Back pain can be anything from a sore muscle from working out, a strained  muscle from running or just tight muscles from sitting on the computer all day  or working in a physical job like construction. Muscles can become tight from  overuse from playing sports or working in the garden. Muscles can be injured in  car accidents or from other trauma.

Back Pain can also be caused by serious conditions such as herniated discs or  sciatica which is a condition where a muscle compresses the major nerve in the  hip area called the sciatic nerve. The many different kinds of arthritis can add  to pain and stiffness and tight muscles can aggravate those conditions further.  Many people with fibromyalgia have some type of back pain. There are also many  other conditions such as Pregnancy can also add extra pressure to the back  causing pain and discomfort.

Poor posture can be a cause of back pain, but often it is a combination of  having both weak muscles and tight muscles. Your muscles work together to  support you in the field of gravity. When you are hunched over a desk all day,  the muscles on the front of the body contract and pull you forward, putting a  strain on your back muscles. Tight muscles are usually busy contracting which  makes them less effective in doing their job of supporting the body.

Whatever your situation, massage might be able to help.

Massage can help relieve pain by addressing the tight muscles and knots (also  known as triggerpoints).
