I did not visit Dr. McMillan but contacted her several times in 2005 in the aftermath of my divorce and ongoing dispute with my ex-wife regarding the therapy that was ordered by the court in Austin, TX for my daughter. My daughter was a victim of severe brainwashing by her mother and step-father and rejected me. The goal of the therapy was reestablishing the relationship between my daughter and me. As the custodial parent, my ex-wife was responsible for selecting the therapist from the list furnished by the court. The therapist selected by her, Judy Cardinale, turned out to be a great specialist. Unfortunately, when the therapy started bringing however small positive results, my ex-wife discontinued it. Then, she took my daughter to Dr. McMillan, who basically accepted my daughter's (to what extent?) decision to discontinue the therapy with Judy and even told her that she would not force her to do any reunification work (as opposed to the court order). Basically, like my daughter's mother and stepfather, she was a "good one" who did not want to force the child to reunify with her horrible father (a quote from the single Dr. McMillan's answer to many of my letters: "I have been very clear with her that I will not force her to do any reunification work but will be available to talk with her about her feelings if that work is done with someone else"). Before I learned about it from the very Dr. McMillan, I many times unsuccessfully tried to contact her. She knew who I was and why I was contacting her, yet she chose to ignore my inquiries. If you know what parental alienation is, how it is accomplished, how damaging it is to the child, but also to the alienated parent, etc., you understand very well what I am talking about. In summary, if you are trying to reestablish the relationship with your alienated child avoid her as much as you can. If you want to rid your ex-spouse from the life of your child, she is your person. If I could give her minus five stars, I would. Unfortunately, there is no such rating.

P.S. I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and for the last 16 years have worked full time as a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. After 11 years from the time I was in contact with Dr. McMillan, I have a very limited contact with my daughter (always initiated by me) and I am never addressed by her as her father. I have not seen her for thirteen years.

I couldn't count on her when I needed her most. Did not work with me until we could find a solution. Just cancelled the next appointment!

McMillian cancelled an appointment for small child who had told her on three different occasions that his father was hitting him. Said she didn't need to see him any more after a failed attempt to get supervised visitation. This child just returned from a weekend with his father and had another busted lip. He was scared to tell but finally said that father pushed his face into the wall while he was in time out.

Would not refer anyone to her!

I went to Dr. McMillan as a child for many years. My divorced parents also attended, sometimes, with me. Dr. McMillan would ask me how I was and I would lie. Shouldn't a trained adolescent psychiatrist be able to figure out when I child is lying? She also could not see through one of my parents' lies and manipulative tactics and assisted in the emotional attack on my other parent. I am now dealing with awful emotional scars from my childhood and I feel like Dr. McMillan never had the slightest idea that things were terribly wrong.
