I have an Old English Bulldogge that needed bilateral entropian surgery. Dr Moris was very kind while examining her, (my dog is 90 lbs of pure puppy yet). I was very pleased with the outcome of the surgery. During her post op visit the Doctor did an excellent job removing the sutures without any type of sudation. I had a previous consultation with an Ophthalmic Veterinarian from Cedar Rapids. He was very rough and absolutely had no bed side manner. I definitely would never go to him and I'm glad I sought out a second opinion.

These veterinarians are dangerous, they are incompetent and the only thing they are interested is in your bu$ine$$ and not your pet. Three of their veterinarians ( Dr. Christy Moris, Dr. Catherine Smith and Dr. Blaine Nicks) said that my dog needed to be euthanized, but I refused. At first they did not want to give me my dog back because they said that my dog was dying and that taking her home like that was medical abuse, finally the Police was called and they allowed me to take Willow home. Before that, they wrapped her injured and dirty leg with a very elaborate wrapping where the first layer over the dirty wound was three layers of seram wrap and lots of gauze to hide the plastic wrap. Then they sealed the leg with a rubber membrane, so the leg will rot. And it did. Dr. Teasdale saved my Willow. Do not go to Veterinary Associates of Galena, you will regret it.

I went to this Veterinary clinic in Galena IL for years and if you asked me two years ago, I would have said it was a five star practice but now I can only give them one star and that is because the office manager and doctor on call looked at me and lied. I have a new puppy and they charged $39 for an office visit. I said " Gee that seems high did you raise your fees since last year ? No, they replied it's always been that price". A month later I found my previous bills from my deceased dog and sure enough the office visits were $20. I called around to all the other practices in the area and the fee is $20-$24 dollars. So do you want to continue with a practice that lies right to your face? What if there is an unexpected emergency and the cost are really off the charts? You will not know if you are being gauged. I have no problem with a 10- to 25% increase but doubling the fees well quite frankly speaks volumes to what this Veterinary Service is all about. I asked and believe I should receive a refund of $32 for the past two visits and they've declined so I will go to the Better Business Bureau and file a former complaint of price gouging against this practice. It's a real shame because at one time Veterinary Associates had the best staff and doctors in the county but as usual they sold out for the almighty dollar! Take your pets somewhere where the people have an ounce of integrity and can look you in the eye and tell the truth!" For years I was assisted by the finest staff but they are now under new management and it shows!

I have been less than impressed with the "standard of care" that I've received at this clinic which includes the following:

1) I was yelled at over the phone by one of the vets I've never met and told to leave my dog outside overnight with food and water until animal control could get there the next morning IN MARCH...without even asking any questions regarding what behavior/symptoms I observed. All I said was that he was growling and he bit me--a bite that did not even bruise or break skin but just scared me since he hadn't done it before--and with no further questions asked I was told "You can't keep a dog like that because it's not safe."
2) I was asked in April by one of the receptionists "Do you even WANT this dog? I mean, you've certainly tried your best...." when I called in for help with the same dog.
3) I was told my dog was trying to be the alpha by one vet. I'm not an expert in dog lingo and I didn't pull that term out of my hat. However, another vet whom I've never met told my dog trainer that's a lie because no one in their office would ever use that word.
5) There was some confusion about who actually administered a rabies vaccination to my dog recently and the same highly unprofessional vet sent a scathing message to my dog trainer--on Facebook of all places because that's what professionals do--and told my trainer "perhaps you were too preoccupied with the out of control dog to notice" what the vet's name was.
6) The same vet also accused me of giving my dog trainer untruthful information about a conversation that she wasn't part of.
7) The vet I saw at the last appointment promised to call me on Monday. On Tuesday, I had to call her. On Wednesday, I was told she was really busy and hadn't had time to look into the meds or a folder of information that had been provided. If my dog is so "out-of-control" as the second vet suggested, having never seen him, and the safety of my family is first and foremost, shouldn't this have been a priority task?
8) Finally, I brought my trainer to my last appt because one of THEIR vets recommended working with one and I felt the staff could be professional enough to set egos aside and work together with the trainer for the benefit of my dog. Clearly, my dog was pushed to the side as the "unprofessional" second vet spent more time pointing the finger at others for bad advice/unprofessionalism and not enough time keeping her own house in order.

If you have a pet with absolutely no need for anything but routine care, you might be okay at this place. If you have any special needs, I'd look elsewhere because the vets I worked with recently seemed uninterested in helping me.
