On a Monday evening, my 10 year old pit bull, Sandy, swallowed a pork chop bone and it became lodged in her throat. After searching for a veterinary hospital to seek treatment, I lucked across SVRVES. Upon arrival, I was greeted in a friendly manner and Sandy was immediately examined and determined by the vet to be in horrible danger. She couldn't eat, could barely drink and had difficulty breathing. An x-ray was done and the bone was located but the vet was unsure whether or not she would be able to retrieve the bone from Sandy's throat. The next step was a referral to Virginia Tech or Charlottesville. While waiting for a return call from Virginia Tech, the vet decided to take one more glance in Sandy's mouth to see if she could see the bone. Thankfully, the bone was visible after some extensive searching and the vet discussed the risks of the procedure with me in detail. She then asked me if I would like for her to try the procedure or continue with the referral to Virginia Tech. I decided, since it didn't seem like Sandy had much time, to put my precious dog's life in the hands of the vet at SVRVES. After a short time, the vet appeared with a pork chop bone! She had been able to successfully remove it and we just had to conquer the next hurdle, Sandy waking up from anesthia. She did wake a short time later and the relief I felt was overwhelming! The entire staff did a wonderful job in caring for my baby but my appreciation and respect for the vet (Kitti) is phenominal! I will never be able to say thank you enough for saving Sandy's life! You truly are a hero, a miracle worker and Sandy's guardian angel!! Thank you for treating my baby just like she was your own!! I'm eternally grateful!!
