I have been taking my beagle there for 10 years without a problem. They were always friendly, professional, and thorough. So I felt comfortable taking our new dog there.

We had just adopted a rottweiler from Costa Rica. So we wanted a full exam with full blood tests because we knew the dog had tick fever in the past. She had a growth in her nose, a couple of broken teeth, and a licking problem. And coming from the tropics, we wanted to make sure she was healthy. The exam started off badly when the 2 new technicians, although polite & friendly, could not find a vein to draw blood. The dog remained docile (yet fearful) as they stuck her multiple times in 3 legs before the vet had to come in and draw the blood. But, strangely, the vet appeared a bit fearful of the dog even though the dog was being quiet and well-behaved.

During the exam, the dog remained seated on the floor with her back in a corner with the veternarian on her knees trying to do the exam. I thought it was kind of strange that we did not pick the dog up and put her on the table for the exam, but I'm not a vet, so I didn't know what was the correct way to do it. The vet tried to look into the dogs eyes with the little flashlight but the dog kept looking away. It looked to me like the vet gave up trying to look straight on into the dogs eyes.

When I got home, I looked it up on the computer and saw that the exam that was not done as thoroughly as it should have been done. No "palpating" was done, no rectal temperature was taken. The vet seemed to be rushing through the exam, perhaps because we were the last clients of the day. Or because she was afraid of the dog. I don't know. I just know I felt rushed, and didn't have a chance to ask the questions I wanted to ask. It's been 4 months since her exam, and the growth in her nose has gotten bigger and she seems to have developed a cough.

We won't go back again. Not even with our beagle. We are finding a new vet.
