My mother was in Room 213B with me there 12 hours a day for 4 Days in July 2025 until I realized that If I left my mom alone there for too long or even longer than 5 days she would probably die from an infection and malnutrition. I had to self Discharge her to save her from the smell of Piss and poop all over. The rooms in her section were all 2 bed rooms so the person already in the room that she was initially put in had a bed bound elderly woman who was sitting in her piss and poop for hours. After the first night my mom was crying for help. We moved her to another room next to the AC and then we see that the room was not clean enough and had a ANT infestation. I took videos of the issue and since I couldn't post them here I posted screenshot of the dirty phone line which is where I traced the row of ants. They will leave you in bed in your diaper for 7 hrs and they will NEVER PUT THE HELP BUTTON on your lap by your hand so you can call for help. Instead its dropped on the floor. Even the TV remote is always on floor not given to patient. Everytime they left my mom the button would be left on the floor. I imagine the residents are in such bad shape that this is the only way they shut up their patients so they can go about their day. The food is ALWAYS COLD and no condiments. The small ginger ale can is even warm. The Physical Therapy Dept never came to assess my mom until on 3rd day I kept complaining to ask for the evaluation, so I knew what type of time frame we were looking for. Only after constantly asking for help they called and someone came. The PT was great but I realized my mom would never get better in this dirty place with bad food because in order to get better you need to at least eat decent since she is a Type 2 Diabetic. The food does not adhere to the diet of the patient and they don't give you a choice of what to eat. So its either this or you go hungry. The 12 hours a day I was there, I had to bring lots of food fresh fruit and food from home so my mom wouldnt go hungry. There is NO FRESH FOOD in this facility. Its all canned. The Room has NO BODY Wipes. After complaining constantly, they brought some then took it away because the other patient in room didn't have any. I brough a shampoo cap from home so i could keep my mom clean since she was in hospital for 2 weeks and no shower. The towel I used to dry her head i had left next to sink so the cleaning lady could take it. Instead the nurse assistant came in room later and grabbed it and used it on the neighboring bed right in front of me to wipe her butt and body with it. I even mentioned to her what she did later that night and she was denying it. I mentioned it to her because she couldn't find any body wipes and was going to use a towel to clean butt. Can you imagine and these towels are used on peoples faces later. From the first moment we got there they had no diaper to fit my mom and there were no diapers in the room. Every time they wanted to change my mom they would have to go hunting for diapers in the hallway. Even the Physical Therapist that had come back the second time on final day we were there had NO SLING in their physical therapy closet to help my mom with her arm that was in a wrong sling. I had quickly ordered one on Amazon and had her put on her. When the PT had come to work with my mom to help her stand up and sit on a commode there was no commode available. Because of this they kept making her go in a bed pan which was extremely uncomfortable. Can you image a rehab facility not having wipes, diapers and commodes and ignores you when you say there is ants. No urgency exists in this place when you mention the nastiness. they have all become used to it. The building is very old and not cleaned well. I have a friend whose elderly father died at this facility and he had been telling my friend that anytime he would ask for them or complain about the issues there they would just leave him in his soiled diaper and laugh at him. Who does that? Where is the management in this place to actually set a standard of care for human beings? There is zero training for caring for people in this facility.

My 92 year old Granddad lived at Burke Rehab for 53 days. Not one moment did we regret our decision to admit him there for his hip replacement rehabilitation. The staff was wonderful...some more than others. The facility was very clean and quiet. They offered a lot of social outlets such as movies or music in the dining room, a nice selection of books in their library and an in-house beautician for his hair cuts. If we had to choose all over again, most definitely we will be contacting Amanda Gannon to take care of our dear Granddad.

I am amazed to see such positive reviews from so many people. My 86-year old father died in this facility 27 days after entering it. He was pronounced dead at the hospital ER by the admitting doctor who commented that the immediate cause of death was nursing home neglect (pneumonia). In the hours leading up to his death, facility staff insisted repeatedly that it was not necessary to transport him to the hospital. Concern about hospital re-admittance before 30 days of discharge, perhaps? I do agree that the OT and PT staff and services were superb, but several members of the nursing staff were surly and unable to communicate sensitively with aging or disabled residents. Call buttons were unanswered for 15-20 minutes at a time and if I had not bee there daily and a trained health professional myself, I am not sure my father would have been helped to transfer consistently to a toilet, chair, or to the dining room for meals. Not my definition of skilled nursing at all!

I would say that Burke is the number one building for nursing or rehab services in this area. My father needed skilled care after a major surgery at Fairfax Hospital. My husband and I toured five other buildings. Not one compared to this place. More importantly, after he was admitted and throughout his stay at Burke Health and Rehab, the staff continued to amaze and surprise us all. We really did not think my father was going to be able to return home. But...due to the therapists and the doctors never giving up on he, he came home. He now lives independently again. One therapist we loved was Jim! He was so happy, upbeat and often sang to my father. A therapist singing and making his day, each day! He wasnt the only one, just our favorite. What a loving place. FIVE Stars and a big thumbs up!

I just discharged from Burke this week, and cannot say enough about how great this center is. I had several facilities to choose from when I left the hospital in September, and heard such wonderful things about Burke and that is why I chose to go there. I am so pleased with my experience at Burke, the building is extra clean and always smells fresh. The staff overall have great attitudes, are friendly, and they do good work. It is obvious that the facility has a great leadership team. I would not have been able to go home and enter my apartment if it had not been for the excellent therapy and my time at Burke. I would recommend Burke for anyone who is looking for a rehab facility.

Good people, and my father was taken care of properly. No complaints, save to say that the rooms were just a tad too small for two guys having to get around in wheelchairs. A little too crowded. And the TV stations need to be augmented with a more superior service.
