BEWARE!!! THIS OFFICE ONLY TAKES CASH FOR COPAYS, AND IF YOU AREN'T EXTREMELY CAREFUL, THEY WILL "MISPLACE" IT AND THEN CLAIM YOU NEVER PAID.
This is not a review of the doctor herself, but rather of her staff. The doctor is very good, but when it comes to paying your copay, BEWARE!! For some reason, her office only takes copays in cash. There is no sign anywhere in the office warning you of this and if you are a first time patient they won't bother telling you this while you are filling out your first time patient forms. They will wait until you're next. So here's how it went.
I arrived about a half an hour early, so I would have time to fill out the intake forms well before my appointment time. Filled them out, gave them to the receptionist, and then started to wait. After waiting 45 minutes, WAY PAST my scheduled appointment time, my name was finally called, and I was told that I had to pay my copay before I would be allowed to see the doctor, which was $40. Fine.
First I give the incredibly rude, gum-chewing, eye-rolling, text-messaging receptionist girl my debit card, which she hands back to me saying the office only takes cash, with an eye-roll and a tone that says I should have known that already, even though it was posted nowhere.
That's right folks, an actual medical practice in the 21st century that only accepts cash. I felt like I was about to be seeing a street surgeon. I could hardly believe it, but what choice did I have at this point? Since I didn't have cash on me, I had to leave to find an ATM.
So now, already way behind schedule for my appointment, I find the nearest ATM, pay the $3.00 fee because I don't have a PNC account, get the cash and go back. But now, someone else is being seen because I've been considered "late" or "unable to pay". I'm surprised they didnt cancel my appointment altogether.
So after another 20 minutes, I'm called up again, this time with cash in hand. I give the little brat the cash, and she just walks away around a corner where I can't see where she put it. She did not give me a receipt. Then I was allowed to see the doctor. Nightmare over, or so I thought.
Today, about 3 weeks after the appointment, I got a bill from her office, saying that I owed a $40 copay from that visit. I called the office, and spoke to the same girl who palmed my money in the first place. She said they have no record of me ever paying. I said "well then how could I have seen the doctor if I didn't pay?" After a slight pause, she asked if I was given a receipt. I told her that I was not.
She then gave me the run-around, by trying to give me the phone number of some billing department at another location so they could "look into the matter". At this point, my girlfriend, who is also a receptionist at another doctor's office and knows how these things work, took the phone out of my hand and took over the conversation.
A few minutes later, she came back and handed me the phone. The doctor herself was on the line now, and she told me that it would be all right and don't worry about it. OK, so fine, no harm done in the end.
But its just such a shame that a clearly intelligent and intuitive psychiatrist can have such a terrible office staff. It's almost enough to make me want to find a different doctor, even though I feel she is moving in the right direction with my treatment.
Let this serve as a warning to anyone thinking about going to see Dr. Radfar: she is a good doctor but her office staff is a bunch of cut-throat thieves. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the $40 copay I gave the reception girl was "misplaced" in her purse.
ALWAYS GET A RECEIPT AND KEEP IT IN YOUR WALLET. HELL, I WOULD EVEN GO SO FAR AS TO TAKE A PHOTOGRAPH OF ME HANDING THE GIRL THE MONEY AS PROOF.
I do have another appointment to see Dr. Radfar next week. She really is a good doctor in spite of what some of the other reviews have stated. She'll tell it to you like it is, not tell you what you want to hear.
But beware of her office staff, especially the mousy little girl with the glasses at the front desk. She WILL steal your copay if you aren't careful.
