Christopher J. DiMaio, MD is System Director of Advanced Endoscopy for Northwell Health, as well as the Regional Director of Endoscopy for Northwell Health Central Region. He is a full-time faculty member of the Division of Gastroenterology at North Shore University Hospital, and is a Professor of Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.Dr. DiMaio is an interventional endoscopist and a nationally recognized expert in the care of patients with complex pancreatic and biliary diseases, pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, Barrett's esophagus, complex colon polyps, benign and malignant obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract, and post-operative complications such as fistulas, leaks, and strictures. A significant portion of his practice is dedicated to the management of benign and malignant pancreatic disease, including pancreatitis, pancreatic cancers and cysts, and pancreatic fluid collections/pseudocysts/necrosis.He specializes in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), fine needle biopsy (FNB), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), luminal stent placement (esophagus, gastroduodenal, colonic), endoscopic mucosal resection and ablation, and complex polypectomy.Dr. DiMaio received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and his medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine training and served as chief medical resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He then completed training in gastroenterology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy at the combined Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham & Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School program. He is a frequent speaker at national and regional GI meetings, has more than 100 scientific publications in high-impact journals, and has served on numerous committees for the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). He is a Past President of the New York Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (NYSGE). Prior to joining Northwell, Dr. DiMaio served in a number of leadership positions with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Catholic Health.
