“I try to make each encounter a learning session,” he said.

Dr Putty wanted to be a doctor since he was a child, in large part, due to the respect his family had for their provider. As an adult, he wanted to give back to others in a profession where learning never ceases.

Early in medical school, Dr Putty realized he wanted to be a surgeon, then was inspired by his neuroanatomy instructor to choose neurosurgery as his specialty.

Dr Putty was born in Greenfield, Indiana, and lived near the area for 32 years before moving to Tucson.
