Dr. Ricarda Benz is an amazing physician/surgeon. I just referred her to a friend. She performed my partial hysterectomy in 2009 and I will never forget her. Perfect bedside manner. Thorough, patient and easy to understand explanations. She used something called an "OnQ Pain Pump" to help manage my pain after surgery and it was amazing. Her staff was amazing as well. My surgery was over 8 years ago and I still tell everyone walking and riding about Dr. Ricarda Benz. I moved to Nashville in 2010 and recently returned to California and expect to see her again as my physician. I can't say enough about her and I almost never write a review.
In 2016, my teenage daughters and I went to Dr. Benz for a routine physical. We're in excellent health. We have no past history of any health problem. The doctor ordered lab work. I didn't think too much of it at the time.
Two months later, I received the 'explanation of benefits' (EOB) from our insurance company, Anthem Blue Cross. I was astonished those ridiculous amount of lab work. Dr. Benz, who is part of our insurance plan net work, sent us to LabCorp (is also in net-work lab) for our blood work. However, Boston Heart Diagnostics billed Anthem total of $11,061($3,636/$3,636/$3,789.)
I returned to the doctor's office and asked for an explanation. I was told by a staff that I don't have to worry, I probably won't be billed for that.
I also contacted Anthem to question the EOB and I learned that Boston were billed for more complicated versions of the tests, many were medically unnecessary.
There is no credible reason to be ordering all those specialized tests for a routine physical. Dr. Benz, she is a gynecologist, not a cardiologist. I wonder why she didn't send us to a cardiologist if, indeed, we had heart disease. Also I wonder why the doctor had ordered more tests (Boston billed to my insurance company) even after we stopped seeing the doctor.
