About

Averi Schaubman, Ms

Averi Schaubman, LCSW, BCD has been in practice for over 30 years, providing quality psychotherapy services to adults and youth with challenging behaviors. Her office is located in SE Denver at 4770 E Iliff Avenue, Denver, 80222, with easy on-off access to I-25. She can be reached at 303-906-2472.

Averi has an eclectic approach and believes in matching her therapeutic methods to the needs of the client. Over her 30 years of clinical practice, she has learned that changes in our behavior and mood do not change solely through talking about our feelings and experiences. Rather, her approach is to actively engage you in experiencing new and different responses to life events in order to help facilitate the desired changes. Averi's practice has consisted of working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. She has a great deal of experience working with adults with a history of trauma and recommends EMDR as a means of processing the unhealed wounds. EMDR is a cognitive-behavioral approach that has received endorsement in being an effective means of healing trauma and relieving symptoms of depression and anxiety. She also uses other forms of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness in her practice. Clients report improved mood and increased satisfaction in their lives.

Averi also has a passion for working with children and adolescents with behavioral challenges and to support their families in a collaborative approach to increase understanding and problem-solving. Her background as a school social worker for 27 years with a focus on adolescents has helped her to develop expertise with this population. As a certified trainer for Think:Kids, a psychiatric program through Massachusetts General Hospital's Dept. of Psychiatry, she works with youth and families to implement Collaborative Problem Solving, a pro-active approach to helping parents, schools and human services agencies understand challenging behaviors from a skills based perspective. Rather than thinking about maladaptive behavior as the result of children and adolescents choosing to not meet adult expectations, CPS focuses on the lack of skills in frustration tolerance, adaptability and flexibility that contribute to acting out behaviors and withdrawal or depression. She trains educators and mental health staff on how to implement CPS in their organizations.
