I am very surprised to find this salon under the heading "Wellness". I do not refer to any of the stylists here other than Tony Palermo. My husband had been his customer for years, but the quality of the cuts started to deteriorate, I suspect this is due to lack of continuing educa-tion; he seems stuck in the eighties. The final straw was when he cut my husband's scalp along the nape of his neck. Thinking this was a fluke, my husband went back one more time and got cut up again. These cuts blistered up, oozed, and scabbed over. I forbade him to ever return. The next barber who saw the damage concluded that the clippers must have had broken teeth, leaving the scalp unshielded from the cutting. These pustules come back and recede repeatedly. I can
only wonder if the clippers had ever been properly disinfected. We learned that the city of Portsmouth has no health inspector for hair salons, that you must request one from Richmond. This is not very reassuring and it would behoove us all to pay close attention to the hygiene of salons everywhere. We are having cultures run on the infection by our doctor, and we can only hope that the results are relatively benign. Thinking of the possibilities makes my blood run cold. Anyone using cutting instruments on people needs to be scrupulous about disinfection.
