Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: When I was in the first grade, my father told our family that he was dying. He wanted us to know why it was that he would be going to see doctors and nurses so much. He would be in and out of hospitals and explained that he wasn't sure how long he would live. I did not realize that our family's journey over the next 10 years would have such an influence on me, but it did. I am glad my father lived longer than expected and grateful for the many people who took care of him and us along the way. Wanting to care for patients and their loved ones who journey with them is why I became a doctor.
