Road Warriors - Take Care On The Road

There are many hazards to living a road warrior lifestyle for your job. For those who spend a large amount of time as a road warrior (driving), there are health drawbacks which can make it difficult to live a healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips for those who put in a large amount of windshield time or even for those whose commute is 45 minutes or more each way.

Breathing correctly is one of the healthiest things a person can do for their overall health, however most don’t seem to do it quite right. Short shallow breathing can rob the brain of essential oxygen creating fatigue and other health problems. Oxygen provides the fuel that helps us to correctly burn calories and fat. Oxygen is also the fuel for our body’s overall healthy operation.

Deep breathing done over a period of 5-20 minutes or so can seriously enhance a person's  healthy utilization of oxygen. It can be difficult to find the time to do nothing but concentrate on your breathing, and driving is the perfect opportunity. Popping in a soothing CD and focusing on bringing oxygen deep into your chest is a great, healthy habit for commuters. Try it! In through the nose and out though your mouth. Your road warrior commute will become more pleasant if you feel better!

Also, staying hydrated and eating healthy snacks is another trick to maintaining a healthy road warrior lifestyle. It is very easy to drive through lunch or not want to waste time getting off the road for a beverage when you are on a deadline.

Packing a good supply of a healthy trail mix and several bottles of water can get you over this hurdle. Trail mix can satisfy the munchies in a healthy way, it is a satisfying and crunchy snack . It is always better to eat regular, healthy meals, but if you simply can't take the time - a snack of trail mix and fresh pure water is a great alternative on the road.

Praying and meditating (with eyes on the road please) is another positive healthy habit for road warriors. Sometimes all the outside voices from the radio and television, from music and entertainment, even from friends and family make it difficult to hear our own inner voice.

Drive time is the perfect time to shut off all the noise and examine your own thoughts. It is amazing sometimes to clear your mind and listen to your own feelings. Praying is best done during this time as is meditating,  positively affirming your day, and pursuing your dreams and goals in a peaceful way.

The road warrior lifestyle can be tough, but like anything else, there are ways for you road warriors to make it healthier.
