Breast Augmentation Surgery Precautions

Breast augmentation surgery has become quite common these days and it utilizes implants for enhancing the appearance of the breasts. Woman desiring a larger breast size can choose from silicone and saline implants that are FDA approved. The plastic surgeon should explain the details regarding the surgery to the patient so that necessary precautions are taken, for paving the way to a successful outcome. The precautions taken during breast augmentation surgery will go a long way in ensuring safety as well as attractive aesthetic results.

Things to Consider before the Breast Augmentation Surgery

• Find out whether your insurance covers the surgery or not

• Other medications should be avoided a week before the surgery and a week after the surgery

• Plenty of healthy foods should be eaten for expediting the healing process

• Someone should be asked to stay home for helping with household work

• If you are breastfeeding your child, ask your surgeon when it should be stopped

• Do not apply any creams or lotions on the day of the surgery. Wear clothing that is loose and will help you relax.

Precautions to be taken after the Surgery

Precautions should be taken even after the surgery for accelerating the process of healing.

• Sponge bath should be taken till there is complete closure of the incisions and there are no more stitches inside

• For ensuring good results, a surgical bra should be worn 24 hours a day for about one month

• Keep a daily record of the body temperature because if there is an increase in the body temperature, it may cause infection

• Stressful activities should be avoided for at least a month as it would lead to increase in blood pressure, and bleeding.

Recovery from the Surgery

Not only are the precautions required before the surgery, but they are required later on as well. The process should be continued during recovery period as well. A patient can quickly get back to normal life if all the precautions are taken and the advice given by the plastic surgeon followed to the dot. Given below are some precautions to take during the period of recovery:

• For at least three weeks after the surgery, heavy work should be avoided.

• Do not bend your body or put too much of pressure on the surgery wound.

• Soft ice packs should be applied to aching areas.

• Sexual intercourse should be strictly avoided as it would cause the injury to swell.
