Breast Augmentation Surgery - Reasons to Opt for the Surgery

Breast augmentation surgery is also known as augmentation mammoplasty or breast enlargement. It is a surgical procedure that is performed for increasing the breast size. Usually, in this procedure, the implants are placed under the breast tissue or the muscle of the chest wall. Thus, the breast tissue is projected and a pleasing form is given to the breast.

How Is the Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed?

One of three common incisions is made for this procedure. Incision choices include that around the areola, through the armpit or underneath the breast. The implants are placed with great accuracy, under the breast parenchyma or under the muscle. The location of the incision is well concealed. The two most common choices in implants are saline breast implants and silicone breast implants. Extra advantages can be enjoyed if the procedure of breast augmentation is combined with a breast lift.

Why Breast Augmentation Surgery Is Much Sought After

Some women opt for this surgery for medical reasons, while some others go for this for cosmetic reasons. However, all depends on the needs that have to be addressed. Given below are some common reasons why breast enhancement surgery is considered by a majority of women.

- Larger breasts

This is a very obvious reason because this is actually what the procedure aims at. However, apart from bigger breasts, this procedure could be done for a variety of reasons. Some women opt for this because they are very self conscious about undefined or small breasts and want to look more feminine. Sometimes, the breasts are not proportionate to the overall shape of the body. With breast implants, there is an improvement in the physical appearance and a consequent improvement in self esteem.

- Changes post pregnancy

There are certain changes that take place in the body of a woman after pregnancy; the breasts may sag due to breast feeding. Breast augmentation surgery is a good option for women for restoring their pre-pregnancy body. More than enhancement, there is restoration. With this surgery, a woman can feel like herself again.

- Breast cancer reconstruction

Often, breast augmentation would be a part of the process of healing for patients recovering from breast cancer. Many women feel incomplete after mastectomy and for them, breast reconstruction can be of great importance.

-Asymmetrical breasts

Sometimes the breasts may differ in size. With this surgery, a proper balance can be given to the breasts and they can be made more symmetrical.
