The general consensus of many medical studies is that low carb diets, properly done and supervised, can be an effective way of controlling weight.
There are so many reasons why we might want to lose weight. Losing weight makes us feel better physically and emotionally. A low carb diet is just one way that thousands are trying to lose weight, but before trying to cut out your intake of carbohydrates from your diet you need to understand a little something about normal metabolism, and carbohydrates role of the human body.
Carbohydrates are essential nutrients for all aspects of human metabolism.
Carbs are the preferred fuel for the body to use for the thousands of chemical reactions we call "metabolism". Therefore, totally cutting out carbohydrates from your diet is not necessary, and can prove to be entirely dangerous. We need carbs to live a healthy life, to fuel our metabolism, to give us a ready supply of energy. So instead of cutting carbs out completely we just need to cut down on the amount we consume.
Carbohydrate rich foods can be high in calories, especially the processed foods.
HINT: All processes foods come in some sort of wrapper or man-made container. Watch out for these. But natural sources of carbs, from fruit, vegetables, beans and other natural foods, also are rich in other nutrients, especially those highly colored ones. These can be a part of a healthy lower carb lifestyle.
If you cut out all these essential elements from the diet, it may indeed slow down your metabolism. The downside to that will be you still find it hard, if not harder to lose the desired weight.
If you cut out essential carbs in your diet, then you will also almost certainly start to suffer from increased fatigue, and this will mean a lack of concentration and incapacity to carry out exercise without exhaustion. What this means is that you will find it difficult to lose weight, but also you will find your health deteriorate, sometimes with serious complcations.
It's important to know that the human body needs an intake of carbs on a daily basis in order to function properly. Instead of trying to cut them totally out of the diet, carbs should be consumed in low to moderate quantities. No foods that are high in carbohydrates are actually bad for us; what we need to do is study and measure our daily intake not only of carbs, but of calories and all the essential food groups and nutrients that we require for a healthy existence.
Lower carbohydrate diets plans are safe and effective when properly done, and work best with the right expert supervision.
