This February marks the 10th anniversary of the American Heart Association's (AHA) Go Red For Women campaign.
Heart disease and heart health have an effect on everyone. This includes infants, adolescents, teenagers, young adults and seniors alike. The heart is vital for your body and if not healthy, heart-related illness can take you down the wrong path where you will suffer or even die.
While progress in the treatment of heart-related illness has been significant, there's still a long way to go in beating heart disease. Please consider the following facts:
- Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year.
- Heart disease kills more women than men, at an average rate of one death per minute.
- Heart disease kills more women than all types of cancer combined.
Consider that one in three American women will suffer from heart disease, but only one of those three will realize that she is at risk. With today's seemingly-endless steam of information, that is a big problem.
Approximately 80 percent of heart attacks in women can be prevented if women make the right choices for their hearts.
- Eating right - Exercising five times per week, and - NO smoking or recreational drug use
Everyone should be conscious of their blood pressure, cholesterol level, blood sugar level and body weight.
Also, reduce stress by maintaining a good balance between home, work, and leisure activities.
