by PBRR
Can Massage Spread Cancer?
No, cancer will not spread in the circulatory or lymphatic systems due to massage. Many Doctors encourage their patients to have physical exercise which affects the circulatory and lymphatic systems and massage is less demanding on the body than physical exercise.

Can Massage Benefit People who are Living with Cancer?
Yes, massage cannot cure cancer, but it can definitely help! It can ease tension and stress, as well as improve the quality of life.

Is Massage Therapy Safe for People Living with Cancer?
Yes, massage is a wonderful complementary therapy when practiced by a skilled therapist.

A therapist should be trained in medical massage for cancer patients.
Massage needs to be modified to work around side-effects or complications of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, medications if lymph nodes were removed or treated with radiation, or if bone metastases are present.

The American Cancer Society considers massage "one of the most supportive and helpful complementary therapies available" to patients and views it as helpful both physically and emotionally because "it soothes the soul and the mind."
