Being a Podiatrist for over twenty years in Brooklyn, and now in Marlboro, has brought me to discover that too many people neglect their feet. If your feet hurt, you will hurt all over. The old adage that said that our feet is the "seat to our souls" is more accurate than was believed before. If we have painful feet, we will have that pain transfered to other parts of our body. The pain can be transmitted from the feet to the ankle, up to the knees, hips, back and even towards the jaw! There have been some cases of TMJ associated with painful feet! If we investigate the origin of our pain, we would be better off. Sometimes, when I am treating a person for "numb" feet, I discover after examining them that they are diabetic and they did not even know this! I am very glad that I am a Podiatrist who can help many people with their foot pain. Sometimes, a bio-mechanical device called an orthotic can help by stabilizing the feet. It is fabricated from taking a cast impression of the feet and then fabricating the custom made device for the feet. Another way that Podiatrists can help is by taking x-rays of the feet and ankles, diagnostic ultrasound to help identify plantar fasciits , heel spurs and nerve tumors, diagnostic electro-neuro exam to pinpoint pain origin and treatments for ingrown and fungal nails. This makes my profession interesting. Please check www.njfootdent.com for more information.
