How well are we aware of ourselves?
Have you ever thought about why things happen to us or why we do the things we do, or maybe attract certain types of people or circumstances into our lives? The secret is awareness; because awareness creates choice.
There are 4 things we do have a choice about:
1- How we feel
2- How we behave
3- Which people we attract or become attracted to
4- What the events of our life seem to mean us
Think about people who you may know that are subject matter experts in their own specialty, whether its computers, mechanics, mathematicians, artists etc… When they KNOW their chosen passion, they have full awareness of it. When they have full awareness of it, they can see minute infractions within its infrastructure that may cause the whole project to malfunction.
Self- Awareness helps us to become initiates in what may be the greatest of all complexities - - ourselves. When we become aware of ourselves, we are aware of the why of things as well as the how. We observe ourselves doing it as it happens and realize its consequence.
The problem lies in the quick-fix mentality of most people who instead of getting to the nuts and bolts of their internal problems seek to mask it with stimulants, alcohol, distractions, drugs, anger, blame, avoidance and social walls. This in turn spirals out of control and causes many to do things they later regret; not knowing how or why they acted the way they did.
This is why meditation, contemplative prayer, and solitude-quietness has historically been (and still is) the most basic and effectual way for us to develop a relationship with ourselves. When we can live and function comfortably in our own skin, we become self-aware of who we are and our surroundings.
We see the same reality with a new set of eyes that enable us to move beyond past mistakes and develop an awareness of self-stability and development. We develop new paradigms which eventually in turn make us and influence who we are.
As this happens - we change, and the people and circumstances we attract into our lives also tend to change; when we change, everything changes for us. And the more aware we are, the more choices we see and are able to take the ones that benefit us the most…
What choices are you aware of today?
Yours in Good Health,
