I have received more than a few emails asking for this survey after the appointment I had weeks ago, so I am finally writing this out with the detachment of time. The staff I have spoken with over email and phone are all very professional, kind, and really know what they are doing and what they are talking about. Dr. Gurjala absolutely knows what he is talking about and is incredibly knowledgeable as long as your procedure will be straightforward and uncomplicated. Unfortunately, he is not very interested in listening (if you are having tech problems, it is not hard to ask someone to repeat something instead of interrupting) and he is much more interested in explaining procedures he is working on. I had a one hour consult and half of it was talking about that, including informing me that I am not and will never be a candidate repeatedly before launching into more explanations. I did not get many of my questions answered and came out of the appointment that I would prepared for for 6 years devastated, as soon as I mentioned I did not want an implant he quickly shifted the conversation and tried to come to the end of the appointment. Very disappointed that a surgeon with such high reviews is uninterested when it comes down to the actual brass tacks of a life-changing surgery, but suffice to say that I no longer feel comfortable working with him, based entirely on: -not being listened to and talked over repeatedly -being told no and then being told that there is a new way to do things that I will never be able to experience (which... wow, that made me cry quite a bit - I have a pretty thick skin but having that tossed my way 5-6 times was not necessary) -referral to a couple surgeons who do not do the procedure requested -fairly frequent use of the wrong pronouns (though I am willing to say that might have been technical difficulties on his end) -telling me that I am not 'serious enough' about it despite being willing to uproot much of my life (he made the decision for me that I was 'too busy' despite repeatedly explaining otherwise, including support system, and told me that a child meant I could not possibly have the time for this [is not that my decision.]) -telling me that because I am not willing to sell my house and relocate semi-permanently (I have no mortgage, dude, I am okay staying for months but I am not going to sell my house) I am clearly not ready - I know you make a lot of money on this, but no need to be demeaning about it -office will harass you for a review for several weeks post-appointment. If you want the review, here it is. I advise people to really look at this and consider - the procedure he does is amazing, results are incredible, and he will sit you down and break every single bit of your identity into pieces for you by questioning if you are 'actually serious enough' because your identity does not completely align (heh) with his views on what is 'right'. If you want something even an inch outside of the norm, or do not want an implant, this is not going to be the surgeon for you.

It's been fantastic working with Dr. Gurjala through the 2 consults I have had thus far (one over Zoom, the other in person). He does an excellent job explaining the reasoning and logic behind his approach. I did not feel rushed at all in either appointment, and really felt like Dr. Gurjala listened to me, worked to understand my questions and answer them thoroughly.

The initial discussion went well. I am still in discovery phase so, by answering my questions, he filled in a lot of gaps. Also, he was very straightforward and the overall experience was amazing!!

Dr. Gurjala is very respectful and informative. It feels very comfortable to talk to him and I can tell he truly cares and is unequivocally an expert in his field of practice. I have had him do a procedure on me a couple years ago with wonderful results and I am very confident in his abilities. That is why I am returning to him to further my transition. Also, I love how the waiting room always has seasonal decorations. Anyway, thank you!

I enjoyed meeting with Dr. Gurjala and he was very professional. I was NOT impressed with the staff due to their lack of follow-through. I have yet to receive confirmation of the out-of-pocket cost of the procedure. It's been weeks and I have not received a response.

For almost all the doctor appointments that I had during the pandemic, doctors would be late for more than 30 minutes and unapologetic. Dr. Gurjala was 10 minutes late, but he apologized. I think it would be better if an assistant can call in advance to notify the patient regarding the estimated waiting time. Dr. Gurjala gave me a presentation and slides, I have never seen another surgeon do this to explain the surgical procedure. It helps me understand everything better.

Dr Gurujal was great! During my consultation for top surgery, he was very thorough in explaining the possible procedures and patiently answered my questions. There seemed to be a bit of conflation of the terms 'non-binary' and 'androgynous'. A 'non-binary chest' is the chest of a non-binary person, whether it appears more masculine or feminine, but overall I think I understood what he meant. My overall experience was pleasant enough that I am interested in moving forward with an in-person consultation.
