I was at TK for 6 months from June to December 2012. I believed it was Inevitable and I had attempted suicide 23 times prior to landing at TK. As a retired professor and psychotherapist, I thought TK was the best program I had seen and I have seen many. I loved Dr Kim and I understand that everyone who was there then is now gone. Unfortunate as they were gifted practitioners.
Everyone complained about the $1,000/day cost and my insurance company paid $15,000 for a 24 hour stay. TK was a great deal, I believe.
I am still close with many of the cool women, young and old, that I met there. I love them all.
I did not Get Better for a few more years but I was a whole better than when I arrived there on June 22,2012.
I was there for primarily mood, but I thought they did an excellent job supporting women with co-occurring disorders (mood, ED, addiction). Their emphasis on DBT was really helpful, and there were some extraordinary therapists (especially art and dance). If I had to go to residential again, I would go back to TK. Lot of staff changes, and not as many Christian groups as I would have hoped for, but thankful they did have some faith-based options. Thankful for my time there!
While my time at TK was difficult and harrowing, I wouldn't change anything. My only advice is that if you're older and looking for treatment I would look elsewhere. While it did help with my issues, I did find that this facility is mostly focused on adolescent girls who self harm and/or having eating disorders.
My time at Timberline Knolls was extremely effective for my overall health; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The staff are extremely competent and effective in using their specific skills and passions to connect with the residents, thus motivating recovery, healing and change. It is my wish that the higher levels of management would better compensate and appreciate the work that the behavior health specialists and core staff does from day to day. This is an unfortunate reality of most agencies regardless of field or focus. The turnover would be less and the effectiveness of the overall vision, mission and goal would be achieved.
