My doctor wrote a physical therapy prescription for shoulder pain. I took the prescription to One to One Physical Therapy in Delray Beach. I talked with Miss X. She scheduled me for 17 visits. She needed approval for this many visits but asked me to sign a form giving my consent to the treatment even though the plan had not yet been approved. A few days later, my doctor approved only 6 visits as being sufficient.

It’s unusual to be asked to sign a consent form just for getting information for therapy treatments. Miss X told me what the charge would be for therapy visits but said nothing about there also being a charge for this initial conversation. If she had told me up front that there would be a charge, I would have taken back my prescription and gone to another provider. If I thought the therapy charges were too high, I would have done the same thing. Would One to One have still tried to charge me just for getting such information?

Months after the therapy was over, One to One billed me for the Miss X conversation. The amount was the same as for a therapy visit. I told them I was not going to pay for a hidden charge. If they were going to charge me for a walk-in conversation, the honest thing to do would be to advise me beforehand. Nevertheless they continue to dun and threaten me with mail and phone calls.

Other things about One to One also struck me as dishonest. The therapist didn’t stay with me for the full visits. E.g. part way through, she would take me to an exercise machine and tell me I could pedal for the rest of the visit if I cared to. The final therapy was so short l probably didn’t even need it. Almost the entire visit was taken up with paper work followed by a half hour of three employees trying to convince me to sign up for more sessions -- at least 4 -- which I didn’t feel were needed.

I filed a complaint with the better Business Bureau. They eventually told me that there was nothing more they could do. They said that all they might have been able to do was lower One to One’s rating to an F but One to One’s rating was already F.
