My whole family has been going to Dr. Pomeroy for generations, my mother went to the original Dr. Pomeroy (Fred's uncle in the 70's) we went there as we trusted both Dr. Pomeroy's and prices were reasonable and affordable. Sadly, all of that has changed and Dr. Pomeroy has lost his way, he has lost his moral compass and can no longer discuss how other places charge too much. He has now jumped on the bandwagon and raised his prices to match other major top notch new age animal clinics that have fancy waiting areas with fireplaces and mints with water to drink with less wait times and more doctors that are specialists and have the proper technology at their/customer's fingertips. Please note I am not trying to slam the business just strongly suggest you are mindful and do not let your guard down because you have been going there for generations - things have changed NOW and sadly it only impacts the customer and their pocketbook! Pomeroy's office is EXACTLY like it was in 1970 and NOTHING is digital, it is all paper records and hard to read, no additional resources provided to support findings etc. Once upon a time prices WERE lower, so I took this into consideration. But NOW his prices meet the exact prices as his competition BUT he has not put a dime into technology NOR does he offer the same services so if your pet ends up needing what he does not have/support he will refer you to other animal clinics anyway hence NOW you get slammed with 2 BIG BILLS! Another thing I noticed it seems as though Dr. Pomeroy does not seem interested in ensuring his practices are up to date for example: I know Dr. Pomeroy is holistic and I can appreciate this, however it seems like he repeats diagnosis & treatments and tends to use " giardia" when all else fails. Sadly, Dr. Pomeroy is RIP - retired in place and will coast on the backs of his longtime customers making them pay for services you may better receive from any other vet hospital around.
I passed 3 other animal clinics on my way to his place so from now on I will just save myself some gas and time and stop in the place that looks like I am living in the proper decade with proper documentation. Sadly I have moved on and have asked for all of my records so I could transfer them to my new vet as none of this can be done online nor can they send off like others, I waited and finally left it was mailed a week later and I can barely read some of the records, maybe my new doctors will be able. Lastly, I understand prices went up for everything and I understand that. AGAIN, my issue is you are not comparing apples to apples here so you cannot ride on the wave just saying prices have gone up everywhere when you are NOT providing the same services. You cannot have your cake and eat it too Dr. Pomeroy, unless of course your customers let you. I will not be one of them. I cannot stress that enough - our mind saying oh yes prices went up everywhere - without realizing your services you are paying for are less than – this is called gaslighting! Not a clever way to do business and such a sad ending to a once upon of time great legacy.

A friend has taken her three dogs to Dr. Pomeroy for at least ten years. I guided her to the clinic on advice of people I know in St. Paul.
He is the best vet in MN. Inexpensive with med's, office call fees this is remarkable since I have seen bills for over two hundred dollars for the same services.
I have seen a horse in a trailer, cats, dogs all never whine when they are approached.

Fred Pomeroy is amazing ! He has treated my cat for the past 2 years after I switched vets due to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatments. As a result he is a happier, healthier cat with less impact from his arthritis and kidney disease. As a older cat he responded more favorably to holistic treatments. I also like that his staff is involved and provides good follow up information and assists the pet owner in the decision making process. His fees are very affordable !

My first visit to Pomeroy's was to have my beloved cat euthanized. Everyone from the person I talked to on the phone to the employees I saw at the clinic they were so kind and understanding. I could hardly talk and the tears were flowing. I was so comforted by the staffs efficiency and knowledge it was over in about ten minutes because that is what I wanted. There was no hurry I could have all the time I needed to feel comfortable.
The second visit 4 months later was a much happier experience it was for my rescue kitten's first checkup. I was amazed at Dr. Pomeroy obvious delight and enjoyment of a small kitten of which I am sure he has seen thousands over the years.
In my opinion, Pomeroy's is so wonderful because in addition to their extensive knowledge and the degree of competency shown there is true love, caring and respect for animals.
