Dr. Neilans and I worked together for several years following a series of tragic events. I credit him with helping greatly in keeping me alive in a time I wasn't so sure I wanted to stay alive. He is calm, knowledgeable, and goes out of his way to provide a good experience for each client.
It wasn't Dr. Nielans so much as his staff that turned me off to this place. Therapy is definitely contingent upon your paying extra (rather than less) to see a nurse practitioner, and if you owe them $40 they will terminate "therapy," charge you a 75% surcharge, and make sure "Elaine" harasses you until it is paid. I should have left that place a long time ago. I was treated terribly. I'm absolutely positive that I would have gotten better service anywhere else. I spent half my day in their waiting room. I can't believe they would expect anyone to wait that long. I didn't feel safe in their care at all. I didn't trust their motives. They definitely favor certain clients, and make an extra effort to help those clients. I was afraid that they wouldn't help me if they didn't like me.
I sought treatment for depression and received treatment that was highly destructive to my well being and my family. I came to find out through the therapy I later received from another therapist that his treatment was completely devoid of insight an proper treatment for the traumas I originally sought help for. I am alarmed to find out that Dr. Neilans is involved in an advocacy center that supposedly treats survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Neilans provided absolutely no resources and tools for healing from trauma. I left his service feeling alone confused and sicker than when I went in. I am grateful to have found other therapists who are in fact trained in childhood trauma and provide appropriate and effective treatment. It is scary to think that Neilans is someone who markets himself as one. He is far from it.
