Fifteen years ago my daughter was 12. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a Saturday afternoon, a few hours before the Father-Daughter dance at her school. Her idea of modest was different than mine, and for the first time in her life she pitted her dad and me against one another to get her way. I was raising her as a single parent, and things were stressful-she defied me 24/7 for years; THAT was the day the straw broke the camel's back. I drove home, sat on the couch and cried for what seemed like a solid hour. I was depressed and desperate. I was actually physically weak, and I remember looking to my left and seeing a book on the arm of the couch. It took all my strength to reach out and grab it. The book was, "Good Discipline, Great Kids." I had no recollection of the book, who gave it to me, or who put it there. By page 3 I was crying, not from sadness anymore, but from laughing so hard. I felt hope that this author could help me. I devoured the book, wrote a behavior plan to match it, made a phone appointment with Dr. Guarendi and reviewed the plan with him for his advice. Within a week my daughter was changed; she was HAPPY because I, the parent was finally in control. She listened to me and we began to experience peace in our home. To this day (now 27) she herself uses his techniques in nannying and parenting her son. She herself has says she can't imagine how she would have turned out if I hadn't "Guarendied" her. Dr. Guarendi is famous in this family. Whenever we meet parents with out-of-control kids, we say, "You gotta Guarendi them." I recommend his books to all my parenting friends, and sometimes to strangers. Thank you, Dr. Ray!!
Straight forward results. Dr. Ray made a difference in me when he asked if I was Catholic and upon my affirmation told me I am not acting like one. Was he lucky or does he truly know how to motivate??? Answer, it worked.
Phone consultation ten years ago. Suggestions for situation were very helpful. Met once in Reno at Catholic Professionals Breakfast. My daughter-in-law's father, Doug Pearson, was your host I believe. I would like to set up a phone consultation with you.
