I've always had very positive things to say about Airport Vet, that is until today. Today, I spoke with the office manager, an angry and insulting lady, whom I had never spoken to before.

The problem concerned a bill that was paid in full, at the time of service. Now, four to five months later, the manager told me I owed an additional $120.00 due to being undercharged for some pills, for my pet. I told her that had I known the pills, primarily Cosequin for dogs, were $129.00 I would have declined the purchase. (As it was, I purchased -basically- the same pills, Cosequin for daogs, at Wal-Mart for $12.97).

My upsetness concerned, not the fact that I was being dunned for a mistake by Airport Vet, but the rude attitude of the manager. After explaining the whole story to her, she reprimanded me by intimating that I knew I was cheating Airport Vet because I had to know the pills were more costly that what I was charged. (Yes, really).

I explained to her that I did not eyeball the line items on the bill, at the time of service, but just looked at the total and paid. Traditionally, even in a restaurant, I look to see if the total is in line with my estimate of the charge. When I go to Wal-Mart to shop for food I do not look at every price before, or after, I pay. My experience in shopping for food allows me to look in my cart and come up with an approximate cost. Only if that estimate turns out to be not in line do I question the food bill. I do the same at restaurants. Right or wrong, smart or stupid that's what I do.

She didn't believe me and said so. She asked me what pharmacy could I go to and get 60 or 90 pills for $9.00, the original price for the pills on the vet bill. I told her that I'm charged exactly $9.00 for a three month supply of many of my daily medications. (Her question was not relevant to my "estimate" argument.).

However, she wouldn't give up. She continued her abusive harangue by telling me there was no way I didn't know the true cost of the pills. I told her I was offended by her insinuation and by her offensive tone, and that I would not be returning to Airport Vet, where I had been going with my pets for almost 15 years. She said that was fine, but I needed to pay the $90.00. Sad how a bad employee can hurt an otherwise fine establishment. I told her I was not going to pay, so I guess I'll be getting a letter form a credit collector.

A smart manager would have suggested to "split" the difference so as not to lose a very good customer.

Aside form the manger, I still give Airport Vet 5 stars.
