Two words: STAY AWAY. I am a writer from NYC who just completed a six-month,16,000 mile drive around America. While driving through Mt. Shasta, I came across a near-homeless man whose German Shepard was close to death from rat poison. I loaded the man and his dog into my truck and we rushed to Black Butte Veterinary Hospital. I knew that the man had little money and was not about to let his dog die, even if it meant that I had to foot the bill. Upon arrival, I expressed this to the vet, Kristy Headings, i.e. that "I was just passing through and wanted to help this man and his dog" and if she would consider not charging me an exorbitant amount of money. She looked at the dog, who was hemorrhaging blood out of its nose and mouth, and then looked at me. The reflection in her eyes said "It's been such a slow week...I finally have a desperate sucker who will shell out the money for me and my sorority sisters to party it up at TGI Friday's tonight!!!" She would have NOTHING of it, and would sooner see the dog die than to shave a few bucks off of the bill. Regardless, I paid her ridiculous bill and the dog lived. This girl, (I call her a "girl" because she looks to be fresh out of veterinary school and whose daddy purchased her double-wide trailer to operate out of), is SHAMEFUL and DISGUSTING. Ready for the best part?...there were NO other animals being treated while I was there and we were forced to wait almost 2 hours for her to attend to the dog. It was only after I stormed past her receptionist (if that's how you would describe the lame duck answering her phone) and walked into her office to witness her posting something on Facebook, (yes...FACEBOOK), that she decided to get up and examine the dog. This dog was bleeding out all over her freshly laid linoleum floor while she was chatting away on Facebook! This post is NOT about the money I paid, but rather the utter LACK of professionalism as well as a CLEAR disregard of an animal's health. Animals cannot speak and tell their owners where to take them when they are in need of medical attention, so I will take it upon myself to speak for them now: PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS AND ANIMALS TO THIS PLACE!

I feel like they always have a special going on every time I visit. Even if I don't bring in a coupon the staff will inform me of the promotions they have going on so that I can save money. I was seen almost as soon as I walked in the door. I didn't have to reorganize my day around my appointment at all. This veterinarian always sends reminder cards for pets annual exams and in addition to this we always look forward to receiving the adorable cards they send out during the holidays. I've never seen a vet that goes so above and beyond to make their patients feel appreciated. I felt that they really valued my health and happiness because they followed up even after my appointment just to check up on me. It was such a nice gesture that made a huge difference. Their office was the absolute perfect temperature. It was so nice to be able to get out of the weather outside and sit in a relaxing, comfortable office. This vet goes out of her way to help people, she truly cares about the animals. She is willing to assist people and work with them when there is an emergency but not enough money. I love understanding people who would rather help the animal instead of demanding an absorbent price before helping. She was fantastic and this vet maintains all of our animals.

They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. They've never used foul language, which has bothered me at some of the other places I've been too. They always make an extra effort to be polite and courteous. Their office was well organized and clean. I could tell they took a lot of time making sure it was presentable.
