The staff seems friendly enough, but once you've had your pets there a few times, you can tell how little they care about their practice. Dr. Ruff prescribed a diet that quickly started to kill my ferret until one night his condition required immediate intervention and I took him to the ER. The doctor there said he may not make it and that I had been told to do the exact worse thing for a ferret with his condition (insulinoma) and with the care at the ER, we somehow managed to nurse him back to life...but only for a few months. This improvement didn't last and when he declined irreversibly Dr. Ruff was eager to put him to sleep. Also, my cat saw her because he was peeing and pooping out of his litterbox - presumably from a medical condition. She held him for part of the day to try to get a urine sample but couldn't by the afternoon. She wanted to hold him for the weekend (almost $400) JUST to get a urine sample. I said I couldn't afford that and I would try to obtain the sample myself. When I arrived to pick him up he was in his carrier with a towel, parts of it covered in urine. Conveniently no one caught that and we couldn't ring out the towel for the sample because they were closing. I knew we better leave when the phone rang and Dr. Ruff said "dammit, I'll get it." We brought him home and did as instructed - put a litter box with only these plastic beads we were given in place of his regular box, to try to get him to pee. After a day and a half and seeing his struggle with the new box, we couldn't take it any longer and just put his litterbox back. He immediately went to pee and I successfully collected his sample with a cup. I was horrified to realize that he thought he was supposed to hold his urine that entire time! While I was comforting him, I noticed a shaved spot on his neck, too...something no one mentioned. I don't know why they shaved part of his neck because no one told me what transpired while he was kept during the day. I can't imagine what he endured at that hospital for the 4.5 hours I left him there. Suffice it to say we kept his much later appointment with his regular vet and are going to give him the urine sample instead of Dr. Ruff, in an attempt to preserve what little dignity my cat may have and to find an accurate diagnosis. I am furious with Dr. Ruff and will never look back. I will advise everyone else I know of these particularly bad experiences.
