I was taking care of a Foster Dog named Josie. She was a great pet who we looked after for a few months. Unfortunately she woke up one day and could not see. She became noticeably weaker so I had the original owner call make her an appointment. I carried the 71 lb lab into the office and they did not make me wait 1 second once they saw her. I was immediately brought into a room and a vet was there within the minute. She shook my hand, introduced herself and thanked me for being a foster dog parent. I described everything that I saw and she took a look at Josie. She looked into her eyes and said she was blind to "diabetic cataracts." I had worked very hard to provide Josie with a great foster home and had diligently exercised her and fed her nutritious food. The vet, feeling me blaming myself, quickly looked at me and said that she could tell by Josie's heart that she was living a healthy lifestyle and reassured me that there was absolutely nothing I could have done to prevent it. Josie was in critical condition and needed some emergency medical attention, however the decision was not mine to make and the owner was running late. The staff made Josie comfortable and waited for the owner to show up. Understanding the emotions of the owner she explained the situation. The owner had recently moved into an apartment which did not allow dogs and due to Josie's current condition and my schedule I was no longer an option to foster her. The vet graciously located someone to foster Josie and I am happy to report that Josie is doing well and living happily with someone who will take great care of her.

Firelands Animal Hospital was the best experience I have ever had with a Vet. I have had some terrible experiences with a few vets and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Currently I have a pretty good vet for my 3 dogs, but I had such a positive experience with the Vets at F.A.H that I am looking into switching to their services. I cannot say enough good things about them.
