Not compassionate at all!!! The head vet and owner Judy Funk is terrible to work with. She is rude, insensitive and passive aggressive. She literally laughed at me as I was crying because I had continued to ask the same question because I did not fully understand. I was looking for guidence on whether to pt my 19 year old cat to sleep ad she could not have been more cold hear ted and RUSHED! You can tell they are understaffed and she will rush through the appointment and make you feel unimportant. Expensive and unorganized. Avoid at all costs.

Please do NOT take your pets to this hospital. I am writing this review as a veterinary technician and not as a patron. I am not complaining about prices or appointment availability but about YOUR pet's overall care. I have been a technician for over a decade and hold myself to very high standards.
While the staff is actually very nice, welcoming and helpful the owner (and main practicing Veterinarian - Dr. Judi Funk) is entirely too busy and hasty to properly care for your pets. The technical area is a cluster. Anesthetic procedures are not properly scheduled and this leads to horrible planning and medicine.
-I witnessed many unclean/unsterile activities. IV Fluids come in 1 liter bags and most animals will not use a whole liter during a procedure. CCAH reuses the leftover IV fluids (which was not uncommon in the past but has since been frowned upon as veterinary medicine advances) with the excuse that they change the lines for the next patient. This would be okay in some cases except the lines still attached to the bags are not kept sterile and are left wide open dragging on the floor. By the time they get around to using the open bag of fluids and they "change the line", who knows what has infiltrated the bag. Bacteria? Blood borne pathogens?
-I witnessed one technician attempt a cystocentesis (obtaining urine by inserting a 22g x 1 1/2in needle through the abdomen and into the bladder to obtain a sterile sample) unsuccessfully, lay the used needle on the towel where exams on other pets had been performed and was subsequently soiled, and then pick it up and insert it back into the abdomen.
-Dr. Funk is a whole other story. I observed her with clients and noticed that she has two styles of interaction. She is either very "schmoozy" and the clients think of her as the second coming (during exam) or she is very curt and abrasive with them. Dr. Funk has a lot of personal obligations outside of the hospital which require her to leave during the day, sometimes multiple times. Because of these obligations you would think the level of organization by the technical staff and doctors would be top notch. I assure you it is anything but. I participated in a procedure on a chocolate lab that came in for a biopsy/removal of an oral lesion on the gum line. There was no set time for this procedure to start so when Dr. Funk came out of her appointment demanding that the pet be anesthetized right that moment no one was prepared. I was being trained by a technician that had 12-13 years of experience but had only been working there for 10 days. The technician seemed frazzled so she grabbed the dog, asked me to restrain, and then induced the dog with Propofol. She then intubated the dog and Dr. Funk began incising immediately. The dog began waking up under anesthesia and Dr. Funk just keep cutting. As we were trying to troubleshoot the issue we realized that the machine was not receiving any oxygen when is what delivers the anesthesia to the pet. The main oxygen to the hospital was NOT EVEN TURNED ON. This isn't even poor planning. Oxygen should ALWAYS be on during operating hours. What if an emergency came in? You don't really have time to run to the back of the hospital to turn the oxygen on! On average Propofol circulates throughout the patient in 6-7 minutes depending on size of animal, respirations, amount given, etc. Animals can be maintained with propofol only but typically they need to have a constant infusion rate or titration. This dog had only enough to be intubated and then was on his own from there. Disgraceful.
-My final complaint is about her care of animals under anesthesia. When an animal is intubated( has a tube inserted in their trachea to deliver oxygen and anesthesia) you need to take proper care of the animal (positioning and transport) and the tube itself. The tube is equipped with a cuff that gets inflated after it is placed in the trachea. This cuff does put some pressure on the trachea and the technician is responsible knowing how much pressure is acceptable. Too much pressure can cause pressure necrosis in the trachea. VERY BAD. Inflation of the cuff is important for many reasons. During dental procedures there is a lot of water accumulation in the mouth because the ultrasonic tools need water so as not to bore holes in the teeth. Inflation of the cuff on the endotracheal tube makes it so that water and other particles/fluids(sometimes vomit) are not aspirated into the lungs causing aspiration pneumonia which can be fatal. Because the point of the cuff is to keep the tube in place, excessive or improper movement of the head is frowned upon. I witnessed Dr. Funk extracting teeth on tiny black poodle and treated it like a rag doll. I had to go to the restroom to contain my tears.
I discussed my issues with the office manager (who is fairly new) and she offered to have me meet with Dr. Funk. Dr. Funk never made time to meet with me that day so I excused myself from the position that afternoon

The location is well lit and secure enough. They have very good customer service. The techs are knowledgeable and kind to the pets and owners. The docs are always willing to answer whatever questions I have or they can refer you to someone who can. They do put their customers first . The waiting room is clean and comfortable. I have been bringing my pets here since 1985.
