Adeline does a fine job cutting and coloring hair. But do not expect her undivided attention. For what she charges her service did not meet my expectations.

While she was doing my hair she was working on the hair of 3 other people. Some of the others might have been trims. But some were getting their hair colored. This would not bother me if she had adjusted her price accordingly. But she does not… not for me at least.
If she charged other customers what she charged me, during the time I was there, she made over $450. It could be as high as $600. I do think it is possible that she adjusts her price based on what she thinks people can afford. So she may charge other people less than she charged me. But I am sure she was making at least $300 per hour, (particularly if you include tips.)

Regardless, for what I paid, I want more attention. During my last visit, she started brushing my hair and I asked her to go slower because she was pulling my hair, instead of going slower, she literally handed me the brush and told me to brush out my own hair. *OMG!!* I was stunned speechless.

If I am paying someone $150 for a cut and color, (which is what I was charged) that stylist should be willing to brush my hair for me and go a little slower and more carefully if they are hurting me. I was so, so, so disappointed. But I know why she did it, she simply did not have time to brush out my hair and also tend to her other customers.

Additionally, part of the experience, for me, is the conversation. I am there to be pampered and I would like to spend more than a few minutes chatting with the person doing my hair. Maybe that is not the type of customer she wants. My calculation is that she spent a total of 15 minutes with me and, with tip, I paid $150. (Again, do the math… you can count the people she was working on and multiply that out, or you can count the time she spent with me and extrapolate… either way, if she charges everyone the same, it works out to $500+ per hour.)

Part of my time there I was sitting (alone) waiting for my hair to dry (in one of those old fashioned chair dryers,) no personal blow out! The blow out is my favorite part… and I think it makes my hair look better… but do not plan on automatically getting a blowout Adeline’s.

The rest of the time I was waiting, alone, for my color to work… no chat time… at all. While she worked on other customers.

Also, she was 45 minutes (!) late getting me into the chair. I can actually forgive that… if it meant more personal attention when it was my turn. But no.

It was like an assembly line, but she was so distracted. Her service is simply not personal enough for me.

Also, when someone is multi-tasking like she does, I fear there is just too much chance for a mistake.

I hate finding another stylist and loyalty is important to me. But I am going find another stylist. She is very busy, I am sure she will not miss me. She has many loyal customers that love her and will be horrified and disagree with this review I am sure. My experience may be unique. Was this just a bad day? I do not think so, I have been to her before. And while the other two times were not this bad, they are not personal and she does work on other people at the same time.

I did not want to post this review anonymously and thought about sending a letter to Adeline personally. However, Duluth is too small to make an enemy. I will check back on this review and if Adeline responds satisfactorily, hopefully with an authentic apology and articulating and effort to improve, then I will take this negative review down. But, no matter what, I will not be back. I have given her three chances.

My sister made this appointment for me as a gift, easily done online. The salon is beautiful and artistic, and Adeline is open, personable, interesting, and interested in my input, as well. She is very supportive of me as a long-hair person, which is such a treasure to find! I will Definitely return.
