I have gone to this establishment three or so times over the last few years and I always wonder why I go back once I am there. I think I must have been hoping things would improve, but I have finally come to terms with the need to look elsewhere and NEVER return. Here are several things that I have come to expect when coming here:
• The stylist will start your hair approx 30-45 minutes after you arrive
• Some dispute over payment. The latest: The stylist asked me, less than a third of the way through my hair, how I would be paying. I said with a credit card - (They advertise accepting a variety of credit cards on their business cards and on signage in their shop). The stylist then insisted that I go and get her cash instead because she “didn’t know how to use the credit card machine”… she said only Askia knew how to run credit cards and since Askia was not in on that day…this stylists’ solution was to stop braiding my hair and request cash immediately. She could have AT THE VERY LEAST asked what my mode of payment was going to be before starting so that I did not have to leave the shop with my hair looking a hot mess…and this stylist was Askia’s sister… I could go on and on here. What a mess.
• Loud, vulgar, misogynic, rated R (language) music videos for at least a couple hours
• Obnoxious “singing” in your ear ~ along to the music videos ~ for as long as you are in the chair. Imagine 6 hours of this.
• Loud voice talking on cell phone directly in your ear
• Limed or No use of the words “Please” and or “Thank-you”
• No intermittent check ins to see how you are doing. E.g.: is this too tight for you? Am I pulling too hard? Can we get you a water? Do you need a health break? Expect nothing like this. Instead expect to be met with a raised voice and an attitude if you ask the stylist for little of anything.

All that said, in my experience, they have done pretty good braid/twist work. It lasts a good amount of time. I inevitably have to do some tweaks to my style when I get home (cutting) so that I get it how I wanted it. Anyway, I just wanted to share my experiences and you can decide. I am now on a quest to find a competent shop where the phrase “customer service” is part of the servicers’ vocabulary.

If you want micro braids for African hair, this salon will provide that service. I took my daughter here and her braids looked great and lasted a long time. They didn't wash or condition her hair but did a good job on the braids. Yes, the staff had their children in the shop with them but that did not detract from the work. Most women across the globe have their babies and small children with them at work.

Personally i would not recommend going to Asaki's. Today I went to their hair braiding salon and was not at all pleased with what i saw and the service provided was LACKING extremely. The staff had all their children running around distracting from the task at hand. The staff constantly takes breaks, they were rude an made were allowed to come an go as they pleased even when working with a client. I did not enjoy that the staff spoke in a different language making it uncomfortable to interact. When being told that it would take a certain amount of time to complete the service being rendered the staff should be able to tell you if it will take longer. especially when they are taking a lot of breaks. I got my hair braided in 6 1/2 hours and it should have taken 4, also the staff did not listen to what i wanted done. For me to pay such high prices i would expect to get exactly what i asked for.
