My elderly mother died 2 days after leaving Redeemer Rehab, as a result of Redeemer's substandard care. Staff may be nice but BEWARE. Mom went there for therapy to improve her walking after a fall. I became concerned on day one--knowing nothing about Mom, not having read her record, the nurse manager said: “Be realistic. People go down hill at this age.” He kept repeating it. But this was “rehabilitation!”

Mom had been very active and had no life-threatening conditions until she arrived in rehab, where the care was so neglectful that she did, in fact, go downhill. Staff failed to monitor her or to communicate with other staff or the family, failed to address her needs. Her insomnia went untreated for weeks, which resulted in therapy being terminated because she found it difficult to stay awake and couldn’t, therefore, make consistent progress. She ended up in a wheelchair for 12 days, with no walking—there were never 2 staff available to help and family weren’t allowed to assist. No anti-coagulant was given. Staff noted one leg had doubled in size, but didn’t inform family, or explore the possibility of clots. The ER doctor said her entire leg was clotted, and she died when clots travelled to her lungs.

It is horrible on many levels. Financially it was also deceptive. The only plus was that it provides many activities for residents.

Redeemer almost killed my stepdaughter. She was completely neglected. No therapy was provided unless she could get out of bed. Therapists came in twice a day and left immediately if she appeared too ill to work. Her lunch was oily spinach and corn on the cob. She had eating difficulties and was left to sit in a wheelchair asleep with no assistance given. After 6 days her hemoglobin count was virtually non-existent, she was barely awake and Redeemer sent her to have her stomach drained, which was the correct action. The appointment at the Hennepin County Medical Center was not set up properly. Thankfully a doctor took her in administered the procedure and admitted her back to the hospital. After another weekinnthe hospital she was admitted to a reputable rehab center where she is being cared for by a variety of rehab specialists, receiving attentive, loving care and is improving steadily. You would not want your worst enemy to be sent to the Redeemer. A little investigation in the Internet will show that they killed a patient whose bed was too close to the radiator and who died from the burns they received. THIS FACILITY SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN AS A HEALTH HAZARD,!!
