WOW... my grandfather is in the "health center" with very limited vision and can only hear with hearing aids. Every time I visit him his hearing aids are set at the incorrect setting, have dead batteries or not sitting in his ears correctly. This is not right for the amount of money he pays (something like $11,000) a month. Seriously people get it together and pay attention to what you are doing. We have heard that he appears to be disoriented, but a lot of this is brought on by him being cut off not being able to hear. We have been there when you say he is having a rough day, and the first thing we check is the hearing aids and guess what THEY ARE INCORRECTLY SET!!!

Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. They go out of their way to make everyone feel equally respected and cared for. I've been other places that left me unattended for quite awhile, but not here. They would never leave me unattended and they always go the extra mile to make me feel cared for.

It was one of the best retirement communities I've ever visited. I think anyone would be happy to live there. They listened closely to everything I was telling them. The renovation this past fall of the health center looks so much better, clean and comfortable. The new chef and dining director have improved the food in all dining rooms and make a special effort to meet personal requests. There are many new staff making positive changes and the health care center is obviously a top priority.

health care center is under staffed. Dining room poorly orginized people wait 30-60 minutes or longer to get there foood. Food is cold when they get it. some of the dinners can not feed themselves they do not get help. Rooms need to be updated. The whole place needs an overhaul.

My mom went to Judson Park for rehabilitation after a hospital stay, and she was in pretty good shape both mentally and physically. When we got there we noticed that she was having some very slight jerking, which she had never had before. We mentioned this to the nurses, and told them it was not normal, but they didn't seem to pay much attention to it. We stayed there until about 8:00 in the evening. As we headed back around 11:00 the next morning, my dad called from Judson Park. He had just gotten there and my mom was having VERY pronounced jerking every 10-15 seconds or so. Nobody from Judson Park had called us, my dad,or any family member about it. Apparently, she had been doing this since about 5:00 in the morning, according to what I was later told by a head nurse. My mom remembers spilling oatmeal on herself, and that the other patients were staring at her, but said nobody helped her much. Anyway, about 15 minutes after we arrived, she had a very bad seizure and quite breathing temporarily. She was rushed back to the hospital, where she was stabilized.

I certainly don't fault Judson Park for her condition, but I do fault them for extreme lack of judgement -- primarily for not contacting a family member when her condition worsened (we just happened to show up), and for not taking measures to relieve her symptoms earlier, especially when we had told them that the jerking was not normal. I would never send ANYONE here. If I could have given 0 stars, I would have.

Main Judson building is very luxurious. Health Center is attached to this building by rusted, mildewed, unheated containers. There is an upward slope to the containers, making it difficult to push a wheelchair or use a walker to travel from the main Judson Park building to the Center. Furniture is mismatched--often patio furniture. Our family member had a broken bed, broken tv, chairs losing stuffing, an old, scratched dresser, and a thin, pink blanket with holes and ragged edges. Food served is very low quality, in sharp contrast to the main building dining room. We were frankly horrified at the conditions, and talked to the staff about our concerns. They said they have asked unsuccessfully for improvements every year, but improvements have continued only in the main building, where tours and sales pitches are conducted. Instead of adding a bigger aquarium and larger fresh floral bouquets in the lobby, buy new blankets and furniture and serve better food to those in the Health Center. Monthly rent is higher than other retirement complexes, but the Health Center is shameful. The staff and patients deserve respect. Residents in the main luxury apartments should never get sick. What a shock when they end up in the back building.
