Staff turnover is horrible. Lack of staff inhibits the lives of the residents.
The skills of many of the paraprofessionals are questionable.
The Resident Service Director is expected to do far too much.
It is sad to see the residents stuck at home because there are not enough staff to take them places.

Curtiss Court is not a nursing home, rather is a facility for disabled adults. I have had a sibling living there for several years. There is constant staff turn over. Mainly because the company who runs the place will lean heavily on the reliable workers to fill in for the unreliable workers until the good people give up and quit. We have gone through so many residence directors in the home that I can't even remember them all anymore. It's indicative of how poorly the company treats their staff. The lack of staff affects the outings that the residents can go on. There may be a calendar of activities but it is little more than wishful thinking when there is only one or two staff members on hand for 16 residents. Every year as mandated by the government my sibling is given a learning plan for the year, to do laundry, to learn to make his bed, etc. (Which he already knows how to do.) No effort is ever made to actually teach these people anything. It is simply trotted out once a year to fulfill a government requirement. Most recently there were montatary irregularities with my brother's bank account. Had my family not been closely overseeing his finances I have no doubt that that sizable chunk of money would never have been acknowledged. There are also smaller issues like the facility will run out of detergent and it will take weeks before they buy more, so in the meantime, laundry, which the residents do without staff assistance, doesn't get done.

Over the years, individual staff members have been very kind and helpful and have made my sibling's life much easier, however because of the virilently negative, cover-your-butt-at-all-costs mentality of the company in charge, the facility suffers. Once one of the higher-ups in the company had the nerve to get on the phone and yell at my parents for their "interference," which was little more than advocancy on behalf of my brother. We found that to be unprofessional at the least.

I would not be at all surprised if they read this review and demanded its removal.
Unfortuantely it's all true.

Sincerely,
