I was unfortunate enough to have him as the on-call doctor when I went into labor Easter morning. Labor started at 2:30 am, got to the hospital at 5:00am (live almost an hour away). Arrived in active labor, contractions on top of one another and feeling the urge to push. At check I was just shy of 10cm. He strolled in and heard that I was a VBAC patient. My first child I went into labor on my own, made it to pushing and it was discovered she was breech, and ended in a csection. This pregnancy baby was fine and my doctor felt I was the perfect candidate for a VBAC. However, my doc couldn't make it. Dr. Lovell insisted that I have a repeat csection despite being ready to push, no signs of final distress and PERFECT fetal positioning. He lectured me (while in active labor) and was very rude. Speaking to me as if I was an uneducated woman who was going to 'kill' her baby. I began pushing without him present and as she was ready to enter this world he came into my room, walked to his instruments table and gave me a 3rd degree episiotomy without assessing the situation or even informing me of what he was doing. Baby was not in distress, she was not stuck and she was tiny! 6lbs 5 oz, 23rd percentile for head size and was coming with ease. Afterwards he began to stitch me up and I asked if I tore, he looked up at me and very sharp and coldly said 'No, I cut you." He also made smart remarks such as "vaginal birth isn't all it's cracked up to be!' As my nurse was doing abdominal massage and I was in pain. Having had both a csection and a VBAC, a vaginal birth is a walk in the park, of course he would never possibly EVER be able to know that, but I do. He also continued to lecture me through the first moments with my daughter, asking if my doctor knew I was Planning on having a VBAC and how dangerous it is. Of course she knew, she's actually the one who told me to labor at home as long as possible incase I got a cut happy doctor (like him) if she couldn't make it. And I am so glad I heeded her warning. Stay away from this doctor! He methods are old and out dated, he does not follow recommendations from the Board of OBGYN's or guidelines they set forward. He also does not follow evidence based research from his field of medicine. My recovery was awful from his unnecessary episiotomy, his stitches were that of an armature and came out prolonging my recovery. But the recovery was still better then what I would have experienced had he succeed in forcing me into a repeat csection. Little did he realize or care to for that matter, I am a VERY educated woman and very informed. If I could give a rating of zero stars I would have.

This Doctor almost killed me. I have had seven surgeries to repair the complications as a result of his failure to diagnose a large ovarian cyst and the subsequent botched surgery when it ruptured. He was several hours late to surgery and very nasty tempered.I have adhesions and hernias throughout my abdomen.

Their office was well organized and clean. I could tell they took a lot of time making sure it was presentable. Their staff is warm, welcoming and efficient. They are able to quickly find answers to any questions and are professional. They were easy to reach in an emergency. When I called they answered right away and called me back when they said they would. They all are well trained and experienced. Dr. Lovell is one of the best in San Antonio. You can't find a more trust worthy. intelligent and experienced Dr. I have been going to him for over 15 years and he always listens to every concern and takes time to answer questions.
