Rebecca is fantastic! I've been seeing her since 2009 and have never been better. She takes a personal interest in my case, and even calls me if she hasn't heard from me in a while to see how I'm doing. I love Zoe, her office dog-- it helps so much to have a large fuzzy animal to cuddle with on the couch while we discuss my medications. Rebecca is open to other methods of treatment, and encourages me to keep her up to date on anything new in my recovery. I went to the Mayo Clinic in June for extra evaluation, and Rebecca was super supportive and not offended that I was getting an extra opinion-- she was excited to get Mayo's reports and works closely with the psychiatrist I saw there. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor!

I was referred to Rebecca Halperin by a colleague of hers who had treated me in the past. In April, she sent me an email that said the soonest she could take me would be this summer. She referred me to her nurse practicioner, Margaret Mihalczo for temporary treatment until she could fit me in (my mother has this in writing in an email from Dr. Halperin).

On the morning of my appointment with Margaret, I went to the office at 665 Emory Valley Road in Oak Ridge and found that Margaret had not come in. I was instructed to phone her at home and she agreed to come in for my appointment. She arrived an hour late and questioned me about whether or not I had ever done illegal drugs. This questioning seemed strange, but I was honest about having smoked marijuana in the past and assured her that I am not doing any illegal drugs. Still, she refused to prescribe refills on my medications although they were prescribed by my previous doctors and I am already set up for regular bloodwork, etc. until she spoke with my mother (I am 29). I was so shocked by this that I phoned my mother immediately. She called Margaret and spoke to her at length. Still, Margaret refused to prescribe my refills, saying that she had recently decided to get out of the medication prescribing business altogether. At this point, my mother and I both went to Rebecca Halperin's office and waited over an hour to speak with her. Ms. Halperin seemed surprised by Margaret's behavior and suddend decision to stop prescribing medication, but when she found out that she had to join the registry to prescibe my medication, she changed her mind about treating me, saying it was way too complicated and too much trouble. This was so shocking to me and my mother since we had never run into a psychiatric medical professional who refused to become certified to prescibe psychiatric medication. We intend to file a formal complaint against both of these women.
